SLaTE

SLaTE is the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) Special Interest Group (SIG) on Speech and Language Technology in Education.

SLaTE 2009

SLaTE 2009 was the second workshop organized by the SLaTE SIG. It took place between 3rd and 5th September 2009 at Wroxall Abbey Estate, Warwickshire, England, immediately before INTERSPEECH 2009. The workshop was attended by 70 delegates representing universities, companies and government organisations in 19 different countries (click here for the list of attendees). Forty five papers were submitted to SLaTE 2009, and each paper was assessed by at least three reviewers. A total of 37 papers and 12 demonstrations were presented at the workshop in 5 oral sessions, 3 poster sessions and 2 demonstration sessions.

Awards

The SLaTE 2009 best paper award, based on the independent reviewers' scores, was given to Sandra Kanters, Catia Cucchiarini and Helmer Strik for their paper The Goodness of Pronunciation Algorithm: a Detailed Performance Study

The SLaTE 2009 best student presentation award, based on the judgement of four members of the Scientific Committee at the workshop, was given to Pieter Müller for his poster presentation of the paper Automatically assessing the oral proficiency of proficient L2 speakers .

SLaTE 2009 was organised by Martin Russell from the University of Birmingham, UK.
