The Multimodal Interaction Laboratory was created by combining our existing research groups in Digital
Systems and Vision Processing, Speech and Language Technology
and parts of our research in Acoustics and Sonar.
The Digital Systems and Vision Processing (DSVP) group brought a strong track record of
fundamental and applied research in computer vision, image processing and novel digital
architectures.
Our speech technology research begins with the development and evaluation of new theory and
computational paradigms for acoustic modelling and extends to application areas such as speech and
language technology in education, speech technologies for children, and approaches to regional
accents. Our most recent research is concerned with the integration of speech with gaze and gesture,
and includes collaboration with the School of Psychology at the University of Birmingham.
