Birmingham has
developed in the past 150 years from a small village to Britain’s second
city. Traditionally, its fame and prosperity came from its manufacturing
industry and, although there have been many changes to industry in the
area, firms like MG Rover, Cadbury Schweppes, GKN and Lucas are still
Birmingham-based. In addition to these large industries, the old craft
skills of toolmaker, jeweller, silversmith and gunsmith still flourish. In
the last two decades the City has seen traditional heavier industries
replaced by the specialist manufacturing and service sectors and it has
become a centre for the development of the Business Park concept.
The City has an enviable location as it has highly convenient access by rail, road, and indeed air, to the rest of the country and from the International Airport to Europe and the world. For more
