Oxford Medical Publications Online | Internet solutions for general practice | Medical dictionary for word processors Oxford Medical Publications Online Updates to the popular Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine, Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties, and Dr Bruce McKenzie's Medicine and the Internet are posted free of charge on the World-Wide Web at http://www.oup.co.uk/scimed/. Simple point-and-click hypertext links ensure that you can quickly locate the information you need. A search facility, a feedback mechanism, and 24-hour accessibility make this the perfect online complement to the books. But the Updates don't end with the Internet. Each Update can be sized and printed to keep with the book. In the future OUP hopes to provide supplemental multimedia over the Web including brief animations, video, and sound clips that will further enhance the paper-based relations. With the combination of a portable book and the currency of Web-based Updates, you can access the knowledge you need when you need it.

Medical dictionary for word processors Spell checking medical documents is always a bit of a nuisance. Most word processors have the ability to add dictionaries of specialist terms. There are commercially available dictionaries of medical terms, but they are expensive and try to be comprehensive, thus being too large. I have managed to create a dictionary with nearly 4,500 words in it that is adequate for most general medical work and is compatible with WordPerfect v5.x and 6.x. It is small enough to avoid slowing your spellchecker down, but wide ranging enough to be useful. Copies can be obtained for UKP 10 by e-mail from GPSurvey@aol.com, or on disk from Dr Trefor Roscoe, Internet Research, Beighton Health Centre, Queens Road, Sheffield S20 1BI, UK.
