Abstract
This work describes an unsupervised method to extract 2D and 3D inner earth
structures from seismic reflection measurements in order to support an
expert interpreting the data. The problem is solved with a general texture
segmentation approach, which first extracts characteristic patterns for
seismic events (feature extraction stage) and then groups data elements
with similar patterns to geologic structures (segmentation stage). The
segmented 3D structure can then be visualised with standard interactive
tools to get an idea of the 3D shape. Experimental results on both, real
and synthetic data and conclusions are presented.
