Wear-IT.net Introduction

Welcome to the Wear-IT.net website.  This site is devoted to The University of Birmingham Engineering's growing area of technology known as wearable computing, or what could be thought of as Wearable IT! (Wearable Information Technology). Wearable technology is becoming increasingly used by everyone, from mobile phones to PDA's. Perhaps, because of the gradual development of these technologies, they are not often thought of as wearable technology- an idea saved for the likes of 'The Borg' from Star Trek etc. Wearable systems need not be the domain of geeks. On this site you can find out about some of our wearable projects and also about our Eurowearable event, which is open to all; come and see us!

What is wearable Information Technology?

In the 21st Century, as with any other, if you are not cool you must be a fool. Although much of the computer revolution is powered by what we perceive as nerds you don't have to be one to use one (computer or nerd). These days lots of people spend time shopping on the Internet and even, heaven forbid, fiddle with irritating mobile phones in public places etc. It wasn't long ago when these people would have been considered 'geeky'. Now virtually free from these constraints one can integrate more closely with technology. Think about it, you can now communicate with anyone anywhere on or off the planet from anywhere, with our lives increasingly working with computers, it is only natural progression to take that computing power with you everywhere you go.
