Given a collection of small planar patches (see right), the remaining task is to group these into a distinct set of surfaces.
This is done by sucessively merging the planar patches based on a highest-confidence first (HCF) merging strategy. Spatially adjacent patches are merged if they have similar orientation models, and are sufficiently aligned.
The net result is a set of surfaces, with each surface representing a distinct fault-surface.
